U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the Interior Department bureau responsible for conserving fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats. It manages the National Wildlife Refuge System and the national fish hatcheries, administers the Endangered Species Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, issues wildlife import and export permits and works with states, tribes and landowners on conservation. Its workforce is spread across refuges, hatcheries, ecological services field offices and regional offices around the country, with a smaller headquarters staff.
