Duties

As an Export Analyst, you will perform the following duties: Uses various high-volume data sets in combination with knowledge of querying and programming languages (i.e Structured Query Language (SQL, Python), to conduct analysis within BIS advanced data tools/platforms to build data models, data pipelines and data workflows to evaluate the impact of national security and export controls. Uses various high-volume data sets in combination with knowledge of querying and programming languages (i.e. Structured Query Language (SQL), Python) to conduct analysis within BIS advanced data tools/platforms to build data models, data pipelines and data workflows to evaluate the impact of national security and economic policy regulations with regards to a wide range of commodities and technologies under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce. Presents well-structured written reports, data visualizations, and oral reports on complex quantitative findings and translates them into actionable insights for policy, licensing, and enforcement missions. Represents BIS on interagency task forces, committees, and other groups or conferences relating to technical and policy issues. Applies statistical, econometric and machine learning methods to evaluate trade behavior, detect potential export control violations, forecast emerging risks, and assess the economic impact for leaders to determine policy direction, advice and guidance to the Department's operating units in developing and implementing effective trade and export policies. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Export Analyst GS-1101-12/13, Full Performance Level (FPL) GS-13 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location or local commuting area with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Requirements

You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. This position requires a TOP SECRET/SCI CLEARANCE: Any required investigations and clearances must be completed before the selectee can be placed in the position. You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use of possession of drugs.
