The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an environmental professional for the Environmental Directorate, a directorate of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), a Primary Subordinate Unit (PSU).
Duties
As an environmental professional, provides professional environmental technical and program support to the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Installations, Environment and Logistics (SAF/IE), Headquarters, Air Force (HAF) A7C, Environmental Restoration and Quality Program Offices, Major Commands (MAJCOMs), Regional Support Teams (RSTs), and Installation Support Teams (ISTs). Provides consultation and advisory services to leadership and customers. Communicates critical issues to SAF/IE, HAF A7C, MAJCOMs, RST/IST staff members, serviced installations, and superiors. Executes AFCEC environmental programs in accordance with all DoD and Air Force policy and applicable laws and regulations. Reviews and evaluates risk assessments, to include data review, and develops substantive comments and corrective actions to achieve technical sufficiency and ensure unnecessary remedial actions are avoided Serves as one of AFCEC's technical subject matter specialists in the areas of chemical toxicity, and human health and ecological risk assessment to include evaluation and/or development of toxicity values Works collaboratively with installations to ensure risk assessments are aligned with regulatory requirements/guidance, and are technically sufficient Provides professional guidance on application of technical toxicology policies and procedures Applies critical-thinking skills to solve scientific problems and develops methods to increase efficiency of the risk assessment process Provides training in risk assessment methods, documentation, and procedures Provides input for briefs to senior leadership for risk assessment and toxicology subjects
