Summary

About the Position: The Social Worker (Substance Abuse) position provides support to the A. T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir VA, helping ensure consistent, high-quality patient care and facility operations. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Provide clinical oversight to psychiatry residents and fellows, psychology interns and residents, or social work interns and fellows, to include clinical performance of initial evaluations, safety assessments.

Perform case management, to include coordinating follow-up and treatment to assure continuity of patient care, facilitating necessary transfers within facility, and post discharge follow-up and treatment.

Provide professional social work services to various beneficiary groups, scattered over a large geographical area, arriving from and discharged to, worldwide locations.

Provide direct social work practice in cases with complex problems and substance use.

Conduct ongoing review of patient progress and evaluate and modify treatment plans to meet changing needs.

Conduct individual, group, and family psychotherapy on primary and secondary illnesses.

Provide relapse prevention counseling, crisis intervention counseling, and motivational interviewing strategies.

Education
