The Rocky Mountain and Alaska GAs have Planning-focused positions. The Southwest GA's position is Fuels focused.

Duties

As a Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Fire Program Supervisor)- Direct Hire Authority your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Supervise and develop staff by planning workloads, setting priorities, managing performance, supporting employee development, and ensuring accomplishment of organizational goals. Provides technical planning and program oversight by leading complex projects, integrating scientific and operational information, and recommending improvements to resource management and organizational effectiveness. Coordinates policy implementation and partnerships by collaborating with Federal, Tribal, state, local, and interagency partners to ensure consistent program execution. Evaluates program accomplishments, identifies emerging issues, recommends corrective actions, and develops process improvements that enhance program effectiveness, workforce development, and strategic initiatives. Leads strategic planning for wildland fire management programs by developing long-range goals, priorities, implementation strategies, and performance measures aligned with agency objectives. Cost of Living Allowance: In addition to the yearly salary, this position is entitled to a cost-of-living allowance (COLA) as determined by https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/pay-systems/nonforeign-areas/#url=COLA-Rates .This allowance is subject to annual review, adjustment, and rate decrease.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. Direct Deposit Required. This position requires the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties. Selectee must hold and maintain a valid state driver's license throughout their employment in this position. Official U.S. Wildland Fire Service uniform is required. A condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a [1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period] during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. Supervisory Probationary Period: Selectees who have not previously completed a supervisory probationary period, will be required to serve a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period for this position. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Individuals assigned male at birth after 12-31-59 must be registered for the Selective Service. To verify registration visit SSS.gov. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

Education

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: There is no qualifying education for the 0456 series at this grade level.

How you will be evaluated

Applicants will be evaluated based on how whether they meet the qualification requirements. Upon receipt of the completed application package, a review of your application will be made to ensure basic qualification requirements are met. This vacancy will be filled through a Direct Hire Authority. Veterans Preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to positions filled under this Authority. All qualified applicants, as determined by the SHRO, will be referred for consideration. While managers and supervisors are not required to conduct interviews, it is highly recommended that they do so in order to assess the competencies of each applicant. Resumes must not exceed two single-sided pages and resumes longer than two pages will not be accepted. You may only submit one resume.
